Flowers and chocolates are great, but here are some new mom gifts they’ll really enjoy. These gifts for new moms are for her- NOT just her baby! 🙂

How many times have you been to a baby shower and seen a boatload of gifts for the baby? Yes, it’s a ‘baby shower,’ but what about mom?
We can easily forget how important it is to shower the mom-to-be after going through a lot of physical and emotional changes. Bringing a beautiful baby to this world is a big blessing, but can be very tough on the mother, postpartum.
So, what do you get a new mom who is on an emotional rollercoaster for the next few months? Well, I’m here to help you with that!
I’ve put together a list of new mom gifts that she will truly appreciate! Please keep in mind that although these are great gifts, the most important gift of all is: encouragement.
Remind her of how strong she is and how she will get through the next few months; tell her that she’s not alone (trust me, this was exactly what I needed to hear).
Now, let’s get started!
1. A Warm Meal
I know what you’re thinking- ‘Really, Ashley? A warm meal?’
You have no idea what this means to a new mom that has probably slept a handful of hours after giving birth. The last thing on her mind is getting to the kitchen to cook a meal!
Just do me a favor- please, don’t show up with a casserole and expect her to return your dish. Let that be a part of the gift! Personally, I love this casserole dish by The Pioneer Woman.
2. Books
This is going to depend on whether the mother enjoys reading or not. I’m somewhat of a bookworm, so I enjoyed taking out my book while my baby was breastfeeding.
This really helped me to feel grounded considering I had all those crazy postpartum hormones trying to level out!
Here are a few good books any new mom will enjoy!
- The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying
- How to Raise Kind Kids
- Ina May’s Guide to Breastfeeding
- The Sh!t No One Tells You: A Guide to Surviving Your Baby’s First Year
Looking for affordable Christmas prints?

3. Coffee/ Tea
It’s no surprise how little new moms sleep the first few months of their newborn’s life. There is going to be a lot of late nights and long days, for sure!
While I was breastfeeding, I allowed myself a cup of coffee once a day and had a nice cup of warm tea before going to bed at night.
I would suggest giving her a Starbucks card, but is she really going to want to leave the house? NO!
Believe it or not, I have found that this coffee tastes so much better than any other gourmet coffee I have bought. Bonus: it’s affordable!
Being that I’m a huge tea drinker, as well, I have found that this tea really helps calm me down after a long day.
Whether she’s coffee or a tea drinker, she’ll thank you for thinking of her.
4. Keep Her Hydrated
If you’ve had a baby, you’re very much aware of how thirsty you get while breastfeeding. It’s no joke, is it?
Help her stay hydrated by getting her a nice water bottle she’ll actually want to drink out of!
I don’t know about you, but having a pretty water bottle makes me want to drink more water. 🙂
This bottle is great to take with her from room to room, or you can get creative and have a decal added to this cup!
Whether you decide to personalize it or add it to a care basket, she’ll love this!
5. Postpartum Care Basket
This is such a fun idea! A postpartum care basket is one of my favorite new mom gifts; you don’t even have to be creative to put one together!
Postpartum is about taking care of herself on top of her own newborn! You can even give this to her before she gives birth so she can start using the items as soon as she gives birth!
The last thing on my mind was preparing for what I would be needing!
Here are the essentials you’ll need to put it together:
- Herbal Perineal Spray by Earth Mama
- MomWasher Peri Bottle by Frida Baby
- Disposable Depends Underwear (For the first few days after birth)
- Kotex Overnight Maxi-Pads Unscented
- Frida Mom Perineal Ice Pads– (These were a lifesaver the first week!)
- Ibuprofen
6. Breast Feeding Care Basket
This is another one of my favorite new mom gifts! Similar to the postpartum care basket, you will be adding the essentials for breastfeeding.
The great thing about both baskets is you can either give them separately or combine them to make one big basket!
Let’s get into what makes a great breastfeeding basket!
- Diaper Caddy– PERFECT for Mama to keep by her bedside with all of the essentials. 🙂
- Earth Mama Natural Nipple Butter
- Bamboobies Nursing Pillows-Heating Pad or Cold Compress– Great for letdown.
- Bamboobies Washable Nursing Pads– To help with leaking.
- Organic Mother’s Milk Tea
- Haaka– GREAT for catching the letdown.
- MilkBliss All Natural Lactation Cookies
- PinkStork Postpartum Reset: Mood & Hormone Support
7. Belly Bandit Support Wrap
I remember feeling like my guts were everywhere but where they belong, after giving birth. I know- horrible visual, but that’s really how it feels!
Something she will really use is a belly bandit support wrap!
It will help her keep everything in place, for sure! 🙂
8. Nurse Friendly Shirts
Another one of those new mom gifts that can be paired with another item, or given by itself!
If you know the new mama is breastfeeding, she will love this gift!
There is nothing more frustrating than having to lift your whole shirt just to feed your baby! It’s uncomfortable for her and baby!
This shirt is super comfy and trendy!
9. Sleepwear
As we all know, a new mama will be up at all hours of the night feeding the baby or trying to get some sleep herself.
The last thing she wants to do is pull up her t-shirt or deal with straps from a tank top in the middle of the night!
I lived in nightgowns that had buttons making it very easy to feed my baby with one eye closed!
This nightgown is one of my favorites!
10. Comfy Slippers
This gift goes hand in hand with number nine. Either gift them separately or by themselves!
I’m not a huge fan of wearing socks to bed, so keeping a good pair of slippers by my bed was so nice!
I’ve had these slippers for six months now and they’ve held up quite well!
11. Comfy Blanket
On the topic of being comfy, I absolutely loved having a cozy blanket while laying in bed or on my couch.
You can go the extra mile and have their name embroidered or purchase one that is their favorite color.
Anything that was soft like this one was perfect for me!
12. Amazon Fire Stick
Another one that has you thinking- ‘Really, Ashley?’
How else are you going to stay up at night while feeding your newborn? I wasn’t about to get up and make some coffee at two in the morning.
The tv in my room is not a smart TV so I wasn’t able to access Netflix without the Amazon Fire Stick. Trust me, Alexa and I became very close friends!
13. Self-Care Basket
These self-care essentials can be combined with either of the baskets already mentioned; they can also be mixed or matched!
Here are a few essentials I used as a new mom:
- Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo– Does this one even need an explanation? 🙂
- Gel Eye Mask– who wants eye bags from the lack of sleep?
- EOS Natural & Organic Stick Balm
- Tree to Tub Lavender Lotion
- Phone Cord Hair Ties– Oh my goodness these are amazing!
14. ‘Mom’ Necklace
I am a sucker for heartfelt gifts and this is one of those!
My mom always knew how much it meant for me to become a mom one day; it was my biggest dream!
About a week into being a new mom, my mother showed up with this ‘Mom’ necklace. I cried like a baby!
15. Essential Oil Diffuser
I am definitely an oil-loving gal! I even had oil diffusing in my delivery room!
One thing that helped me with my postpartum anxiety was diffusing essential oils; the familiar scent calmed me down when I started to feel anxious.
This diffuser is my favorite! Match it up with some lavender and eucalyptus to make a great gift!
A few more oils that she’ll love:
16. Instapot
If you’re a man, you’re probably laughing at this suggestion. However, if you’re a mom- You know exactly why an Instapot made it to the new mom gifts list.
I am a first-time mom to a five-month-old baby girl, but I also have three stepdaughters! That’s a lot of food to prepare!
I did not want to be spending a lot of time in the kitchen, especially when I had a newborn that depended solely on me.
She will definitely appreciate this gift if it means not keeping her in the kitchen for longer than she needs to be!
17. Grocery Delivery
I don’t know about you, but I did not want to step foot outside of my home after giving birth.
There are so many grocery delivery options now, it’s amazing!
Amazon now offers Prime Pantry where you’re able to select pantry essentials and have it delivered right to your door.
Just think of how happy you’ll make that new mama when she finds out she doesn’t have to go to the grocery store!
18. Prime Subscription
As previously mentioned- anything that keeps mama from having to leave the house will make her happy!
Why not get her an Amazon Prime Subscription so she can order all of her baby’s necessities online and have them in two days?
If you’re feeling extra generous, pair it with an Amazon Gift Card so she can make her first purchase!

I hope found this list helpful in your search for the perfect new mom gifts! Remember, she will be very appreciative just knowing that you thought of her!
Show her support and continue to remind her of how good she’s doing as a new mama!
